Afghanistan volleyball Team Gets the Title of Championship

The University of Pune is organizing the Youth Festival of foreign students in its campus every year. The main parts of the program are sport festival (volleyball, basketball and football), food festival and cultural festival. The invitation of sport festival of 2008 -2009 had been distributed on 17 Nov 2008 to the representatives of countries to form their teams and introduce them to International Students Centre.

The volleyball matches started on ^3rd Dec and ended on 8^th Dec 2008 and 22 countries participated to that. Afghanistan played with Tibet, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Iran. Sudan was the runner of last year while Iran the winner. The final matches of volleyball inaugurated by Dr. Vasudha Garde the honourable director of International Students Centre on 8^th December 2008 in ground play behind the International Students Centre, University of Pune while the staff of International Cell had been accompanying her. The program with shouting, marching, clapping and encouraging and warm felling of supporters of teams started. Our team gave a hard time to Iranian and won the matches and became the winner. It must be mentioned that many of afghan students from different colleges came together and encouraged their countrymen very warmly and emotionally. The University of Pune on cultural festival rewarded our team as the winner which gave much prestige to Afghans and Afghanistan. The respected position of Consulate General of Afghanistan in Mumbai under leadership of Mr. Saifurrahman Rahim awarded the members of team in Sinhgad College where afghan students came together and listen to his speech very patiently and thanked the consulate for encouraging of them, especially their volleyball players.

The members of team, afghan students and members of afghan students association in Pune have the proud of winner of volleyball matches and say congratulation this proud to the respected position of afghan consulate in Mumbai and afghan embassy in Delhi and all afghan students in India. We try and pray that beside of our studying have more success in other activities to bring dignity and proud to our country. Giving a hand from your site will be the guaranty of our aims and objectives.

Afghanistan did not have basketball team and this game won by Iranian this year.
