Hazara Students; Step Ahead Deliberately By: Jawad Rahmani |

No doubt, we, Hazara nation, have been grappling with vicious cycle of bigotry, suppression, injustice, humiliation, religion and ethnic fanaticism and even with downright ethnic-cleansing plots in various epochs of history. But indubitably, we kept creeping through all those notorious ruling cultural and socio-political structures, but by incredible sufferings and losses. In the course of history, we have never stretched our legs and hands towards others’ right, and our expectations, from the ruling regimes of time, have been circulating within the accepted international norms and international legal conventions. We employed every legal and legitimate means to restore our violated essential rights, but in every step ahead our demands consistently overreacted by ruling regimes and enraged so-called “political lords”. Meanwhile, our strife has been never ceased to end and it kept continuing with all its ups downs. Dear Hazara students and those who render at least brief glance to this article, considering our past unbearable and heart-rending situation; what is your responsibility towards this people and towards yourselves? What can you do to motivate a small leap to the current situation of this people in all social, political, economic, cultural, religious, and educational spheres, as well as for your lovely country Afghanistan? Certainly, since the outstation of Taliban regime by US-led invasion in Afghanistan, some of our rights restored and opportunities become far better, comparing to previous eras. In this short period, Hazara nation proved their talents and competitiveness almost in every sphere, particularly in the sphere of education. Thousands of them are presently studying in various universities and colleges both inside and outside of the country. Most of them achieved several admirable honorees in their respective courses. If you just put glance on the campus of Kabul University, you can simply figure out my sayings. Likewise, the presence of large number of Hazara students in various countries around the world, particularly in India, is affirmation of my sayings. Two characteristics of Hazara nation has won the appreciation of all those who are aware of. One, the presence of dominant viewpoints of criticism among this people, and second, their persistence on co-existence and mutual respect with rest of ethnic groups. Needless to say, one of the major factors behind the amazing development of science and technology is based on “prevalence of critics and critical analysis of all existing issues” in western countries. Hundreds of social, political and human rights’ activists, along with other critics almost in every sphere, severely questioned the principles of ruling interpretation from religion, and challenged the undisputable power of Churches and despotic regime which used to justify their governance by arguing they are the appointees of God. And those challenging criticizes really fuelled the shot of western countries to forefront of civilization. As far as I myself have been in contact with hundreds of Hazara student, I found really this feeling very visible among them. They all had very critical viewpoints to social, political, cultural, and religious affairs. And those criticism were in flagrant contradiction with prevalent destructive criticizes, moving through ruling establishment. They were frankly pointing to numerous drawbacks on present people’s practices. If Hazara students maintain this habit, or if those who do not have achieve it, green light sparkles for rapid development and enlargement of capacity. Because, whenever, some adopt of critical perspective, he also will find the tolerance to accept others’ criticism, which unfortunately does not exist in the country. If you criticize the reaction is not logical response, but is a “clenched fist”. The institution to criticize and to accept others’ criticism indubitably signals improvement and development. Second the persistence of Hazara Nation on co-existence with rest of ethnic groups based on the mutual respect and mutual interest. Sometimes crawling into a sanctum, a critical issue consistently really resents me. That is; why various ethnic groups living in Afghanistan cannot think of an end to an ever-lasting factor of calamity and misery—bigotry? Worst, why our Afghani brothers portray a particular worry about Hazara nation? I do not want to deal with answer of these questions. But I want to point out that, as I mentioned above, Hazara never dreamed to snatch others’ rights or violate their rights. Our whole strife and quarrels with tribal chiefs and high-ranking officials of ruling regimes was based on demands to grant our essential and natural rights, and leave us to live and to be entitled to those things which own by heredity or achieved by struggles. But always deaf ears were turned to us! Now I really can understand the sayings of Les Stewart that “it is difficult to get a man understand when his job depends on not understanding it”. Anyhow, our demands are based on framework of all worldwide accepted rights, of course beyond that. I hope that we maintain the above habits and, more important, realize responsibilities which you have towards our people and towards all of our belongings. Additionally, use the provided opportunities for enlargement of capacity of Afghanistan, and make it reach one day to levels of highly developed countries and for ever farewell with pass economic sufferings and social and political injustice. It depends on us how we utilize opportunities.
I will be grateful to receive your constructive suggestions and advices. And I also invite all of you to read my series of columns on www.outlookafghansitan.net and please do not deprive me from your fruitful suggestions.
